Jamaica Itineraries
Overview
Use these ready plans to match your time and pace. Short trips work best with one base to cut driving. Longer trips flow well with two or three bases. Start early for calm seas and lighter traffic. Book popular sights in advance and avoid big cruise days in Ocho Rios and Falmouth when you can. Link through for details on each place.
3 day plan
Base: Montego Bay or Negril.
Day 1. Arrive and settle. Beach or pool in the afternoon. If based in Montego Bay, tour Rose Hall Great House near sunset or join the Luminous Lagoon night boat.
Day 2. Ocho Rios loop. Climb Dunn’s River Falls early. Continue to the Blue Hole for pools and jumps. Optional stop at Mystic Mountain for the bobsled and zip line. Return by late afternoon.
Day 3. If based in Negril, spend the morning on Seven Mile Beach and end at Rick’s Cafe for sunset. If based in Montego Bay, choose a river float on the Martha Brae or a half day snorkel trip.
Driving note: Montego Bay to Ocho Rios is about two hours each way depending on traffic.
5 day plan
Base: One base in Negril or Montego Bay or split 3 nights in Montego Bay and 2 nights in Negril.
- Day 1. Arrival day. Easy beach time.
- Day 2. Ocho Rios loop with Dunn’s River and Blue Hole. Add Mystic Mountain if energy allows.
- Day 3. West coast rest day. Beach, spa, or reef trip. Sunset at Rick’s if in Negril.
- Day 4. South Coast trio. Black River Safari, Floyd’s Pelican Bar by boat, and YS Falls if time allows.
- Day 5. Choose one: Martha Brae raft, Appleton rum tour, or simple beach and shopping.
7 day plan
Base options: Two base plan works well. Example 1 is Montego Bay for 4 nights plus Port Antonio for 3 nights. Example 2 is Negril for 4 nights plus Ocho Rios for 3 nights.
- Days 1 to 2. Settle at the first base. Beach, Rose Hall, or Luminous Lagoon evening.
- Day 3. Ocho Rios highlights. Dunn’s River and Blue Hole with lunch in town.
- Day 4. South Coast loop to Black River and Pelican Bar. Return to base.
- Day 5. Transfer to the east if you chose Port Antonio. Light afternoon at Frenchman’s Cove or Winnifred.
- Day 6. Reach Falls in the morning, then Boston Bay for jerk and a beach break.
- Day 7. Optional Kingston day trip for the Blue Mountains coffee tour or museum time, then depart.
10 to 14 day plan
Grand circuit idea: Montego Bay 3 nights, Negril 2 nights, South Coast 2 nights, Port Antonio 3 nights, Kingston 2 nights.
- Montego Bay. Beach start, Rose Hall, Luminous Lagoon, and a Martha Brae raft.
- Negril. Seven Mile Beach, snorkel or glass bottom boat, sunset at Rick’s.
- South Coast. Black River Safari, YS Falls, and the boat ride to Pelican Bar. Add Appleton if you have time.
- Port Antonio. Frenchman’s Cove, Winnifred, Boston Bay, and Reach Falls.
- Kingston. Blue Mountain sunrise hike or coffee estate, museum time in the city, and dining.
Pacing tip: Keep transfer days light. Plan one main stop on the way and arrive before dark.
