Dunn’s River Falls

Overview

Dunn’s River Falls is Jamaica’s classic waterfall climb, a natural staircase of smooth limestone that rises from the beach to the forest above Ocho Rios. Guides lead small groups on safe lines up the terraces while non-climbers watch from decks and paths. The park adds bathrooms, lockers, a small beach, and stalls for snacks and souvenirs.

This page covers how entry and guides work, what to expect on the climb, what to bring, the best hours around cruise days, ticket basics, safety, transport, and nearby stops to round out your day.

Climb details and what to bring

Timing and cruise days

Best time. Go at opening for the coolest air and the clearest route. Late afternoon can also be quiet after the tour rush.

Cruise ship days. Ocho Rios gets busy when ships are in port. If your dates are fixed, choose the first or last slots. Weekends see more local visitors.

Weather. Light showers are common and the climb continues. After heavy rain, follow guide instructions on which sections to avoid.

Ticket info

Tickets are sold at the gate and by tour desks. Child rates are common. Lockers and water-shoe rentals cost extra. Card acceptance is typical but bring small cash for tips and snacks. Keep receipts for any rentals.
